First brewed in 1958, this legendary ale has long inspired debate over the meaning of its name. Does SA stand for Special Ale? Samuel Arthur? Or even Skull Attack? The truth is lost to time — and that’s part of its charm.
Back in the day, SA was known as the stronger choice at the bar, earning a certain reputation. Yet despite its depth and full-bodied flavour, it remains surprisingly sessionable.
Today, SA is the toast of the Welsh nation — our renowned premium bitter, copper-coloured with a nutty richness from Pale and Crystal malts, and balanced by the classic trio of Challenger, Goldings and Fuggles hops.
